Passing time in Provo

As we continued our eastern trek across the salt flats from West Wendover, Nevada towards the Salt Lake City, Utah area we kept a wary eye out for any signs of a change in the weatherOver the past few days a large slow moving front had been blessing the Great Basin with periodic, and sometimes fierce, thunderstorms, and Sunday appeared to be no exception.  The thought of running into 60-70 mph gusts while pulling our house on wheels down the freeway was a bit unnerving, but fortunately, the nasty weather stayed to the North East during our travels and we arrived at our next destination in Springville, Utah, just south of Provo, without a weather incident.

Our three night stay here was busy with Sheila hard at work making sure everyone would be paid on time and Tom taking care of a couple of small maintenance items requiring attention.

After the work was done we headed up into Provo Canyon for a little R&R with our first stop at Bridal Veil falls, a 607-foot-tall double cataract waterfall in the south end of the canyon.  An aerial tramway service to the top of the falls was built in 1967 and the small, six-passenger tramway functioned as a recreational attraction and as the only access (except via helicopter) to a restaurant built by Groneman Construction situated on a cliff at the top of the falls until an avalanche destroyed the tram in early 1996.

Our next stop in our journey up Provo Canyon was the Sundance Mountain resort, founded by Robert Redford in 1969.  Sundance Mountain Resort has been recognized among the top resort destinations in the world by both Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazines. Featuring 100 intimate and elegantly rustic suites, cottages and homes, Sundance offers a quiet, casual and relaxing escape from the larger resorts in the area.

Wild turkeys roam the slopes in eager anticipation of skiing season....

And lurk in the trees overhead!!

Our journey up Provo Canyon was to soon end with a brewing thunderstorm sending us back down the valley to take care of some shopping needs.

After the storm.
