On to Moab!

Wednesday, October 1st brought us a new month, clearer weather and the beginning of the next leg of our journey to Moab, Utah.  We left the Provo area chasing the remnants of the weather front that had been pestering us since West Wendover, Nevada.  Oh, and the best part...we had a TAIL WIND as we left Provo!

Gee...now where do you suppose this road goes?

As we wended our way towards Moab we passed thru Carbon County, Utah, known for it's coal production, particularly during WWII when coal from Carbon County placed Utah among the leading producers.

Not far from the coal industry sign we discovered a historical placard that indicated in 1897 Butch Cassidy, along with Elsa Lay and Bob Meeks robbed the Pleasant Valley Coal Company office, located on that spot, making off with over $8,000 in gold and silver.  That's a lot of money by 1897 standards!!

We arrived in Moab with plenty of daylight remaining, so after dropping the trailer, we headed up the hill to check out Arches Park.  Were we in for a treat!

The drive up into Arches National Park is somewhat steep at first, with several switchbacks, which set Sheila's legs a wiggling as we chugged up the hill.

As we toured Arches National Park we were treated to spectacular vistas one right after the other, with our vocabulary quickly being reduced to a few simple words such as "Wow, spectacular and magnificent!"

On Thursday, October 2nd, to round out our visit to Moab, we took a trip to Canyonlands National Park.  There we saw equally wonderful vistas with our vocabulary again quickly being reduced to a few simple words such as "Wow, spectacular and magnificent!"

There is so much to see and do and experience in the Moab area that two days merely whetted our appetite for more.  A return trip is in order!!!
